November 7th, 2024

Toronto Children’s Chorus touring ensemble, the Chamber Choir, will be heading to Powell River BC in July to present a series of  concerts at the international festival Choral Kathaumixw (July 1-5). The Choir, under the direction of Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz and Associate Artistic Director Charissa Bagan, have been invited to be the Guest Choir for the event.  Zimfira Poloz has also been named as the 2025 Kathaumixw Adult Common Song Conductor.

Choral Kathaumixw started in 1984 and takes place every two years. The Festival now brings together more than 1200 singers (children, youth and adults) from around the world to share their music, culture and friendship.  The Salish word Kathaumixw (pronounced Ka-tau-miou) means 'a gathering together of different peoples.'  TCC competed at the second Festival, held in 1986, where they were awarded the title Choir of the World.

TCC Chamber Choir is honoured to be returning to this international celebration of choral music.  “Being named Guest Choir is a wonderful opportunity for our choristers to sing, perform, collaborate, learn,  and connect with singers from around the world. We are looking forward to this musical opportunity, and the opportunity for many of us to experience for the first time this stunning part of our country,” comments  Zimfira Poloz, Artistic Director of the Toronto Children’s Chorus.

More details about the Festival can be found on their website: https://www.kathaumixw.org/index.shtml
