Parents

Responsibilities

Parents play a very important role in the success of their children as choristers in the Toronto Children’s Chorus. Parents are expected to support their children and help them achieve their best, especially in the training choirs level.

Parents should:

  • Carefully read weekly choir memos with their child and make sure that their child understands the communication and is aware of any changes or new information.
  • Listen to their child practice at home and encourage them.
  • Make sure their child arrives on time for rehearsals and concerts.
  • Encourage their child to become self-sufficient by letting them do their homework themselves, organize their own music bag and sign in at rehearsals on their own.

Parents also play a vital role in the success of the Chorus as volunteers. As well as selling concert tickets, recordings, and participating in our annual fundraising initiatives, parent volunteers donate their time and expertise so that the Chorus can function more effectively. In doing so, they ultimately help the children to give their best at all times, bringing their art to our community, country and world.

Parents are also expected to attend periodical Parent Meetings. These meetings are run by the Board of Directors or by management so that parents may offer support for fundraising campaigns, make suggestions or voice questions and concerns from chorister families. These meetings are held during choir rehearsal time to make it easier for parents to attend.

Parent Volunteers

The Toronto Children’s Chorus is a wonderful community of chorister families, volunteers, alumni and staff members. This community is bonded together by its love of children and its commitment to music education and excellence. New chorister families can connect with older chorister families whose children have been in the choir program for many years. It is a very tight-knit and supportive community.

Toronto Children’s Chorus parents have always been passionate in their personal commitment to the Chorus and its objectives. The success of the Chorus is largely dependent on our family of volunteers. Parent volunteers have the opportunity to share a mutual interest with their child. Volunteers enjoy the music, the friendships and the chance to be a part of a world-class ensemble.
